The Argyle settlement began as a river fording located on the Lead Road. It was named in 1844 by Allan Wright, blacksmith and first postmaster, in honor of the Duke of Argyll of his native Scotland.  The village was subsequently settled by industrious Norwegian immigrants who established farms and businesses leading to growth and prosperity.  Learn more...
