The Village Board serves as the community's legislative body, having responsibility for enacting town ordinances, appropriating funds to conduct town business, and providing direction to town staff.

Village Ordinances

The Village Board enacts ordinances for the government and good order of the village including its commercial benefit and for the health, safety, welfare and convenience of the public. The complete legislative code (ordinance book) for the Village of Argyle may be accessed through eCode 360.

The following ordinance summaries are in response to frequently asked questions.

  • Dog Licensing Required Yearly
    Ordinance 164-3

    All dogs over the age of 6 months must be licensed yearly per State Statutes. Please mail or bring a copy of your dog(s) most current rabies vaccination papers from your veterinarian to obtain your yearly dog license. Licenses can be purchased from the Village Clerk when taxes are paid or any time prior to March 1st. An additional late fee of $5.00 per dog will be collected for any dog licensed after March 1st. You are required to obtain a kennel license if you have more than two dogs. The Argyle Police Department will issue fines to all residents that have not licensed their dogs by June 30th!

  • Building Permits are Required
    Ordinance 190-2

    Prior to any demolition, addition or home improvement project, please contact Scott Jelle, Argyle Buiilding Inspector at (608)214-6848 to obtain information.  A building permit application is required.

  • Open Burning Prohibited
    Ordinance 206-1

    No person shall engage in the open burning of any garbage, solid waste, leaves, yard or garden debris or other refuse of any kind on any public or private property located within the Village of Argyle. We ask that all residents take leaves and grass clippings to the compost site located behind the Village Shed at 400 South State St.

  • Dumping of Debris on Village Streets
    Ordinance 374-1

    It shall be unlawful for any person to deposit or cause to be deposited, dump, sort, scatter or leave any rubbish, stone, wire, earth, ashes, cinders, sawdust, hay, grass, manure, filth, paper, snow, ice, dirt, grass, leaves, construction waste, garbage or other offensive or noxious materials in any public street, sidewalk, alley, or upon any public property or upon any property of another, without the expressed permission of the owner or occupant thereof. Such unlawful material or obstruction may be removed by the Village and the cost thereof billed to the violator pursuant to Sec. 66.0627, Wis. Stats 

  • Winter Parking Regulations
    Ordinance 630-20

    Annually Effective: November 1-April 15

    Residential Areas: Please observe the Alternate Side Parking regulation which is as follows: Park your vehicle on the even numbered side of the street if the date after 12 midnight is an even number e.g. Nov 22. Park your vehicle on the odd numbered side of the street if the date after 12 midnight is an odd number e.g. Nov 23.

    Downtown Areas: No person shall park any vehicle between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. in the following areas for snow removal:

    Milwaukee Street from the Pecatonica River to its intersection with South Green Street
    Broad Street from its intersection with Grant Street to Monroe Street
    Monroe Street from its intersection with Broad Street to South Street
    South Street from its intersection with Milwaukee Street to Monroe Street
    State Street from its intersection with Grant Street to Mill Street
